“We were lucky when we fished with Andrew. Along with the blessing of perfect weather that provided enough sunshine to facilitate spotting fish and a gentle breeze that made casting easier, Andrew knew where the fish were and how to approach them. Familiarity with the fishery and spending time on the water is one of his strengths. In addition, some guides can see fish better than others and I would rate Andrew high on the list of guides who can see. Once the fish were spotted, he maneuvered the skiff with skill and got us into position for the best cast. We caught eight fish between two fishermen and if our casting had been better, it would have been double that number. In between the action, the conversation covered topics of fishing, tying flies, golf, hunting, and bird dogs. Since Andrew caddied on the PGA tour for 12 years, he has some great stories and is very knowledgeable about the game. We fished with flies he tied and they worked well.  We had a lovely day and I hope to have many more fishing with Andrew.” Mike Allen.

“Over the years, I’ve fished with a number of guides, both in New Zealand and in the US. The qualities of a good guide, in my view, include getting you to where the fish are, knowing which flies to use, and – most importantly – being able to read you well enough to know when to deliver instruction and even criticism, and when to shut up. Great storytelling skills are an asset too. Andrew got us to where the fish were, he was stealthy and patient in his stalking, he was non-judgemental in terms of his evaluation of your performance, and if he felt you were open to tips on how to improve, he would willingly provide them or even step up on the bow and give you a demonstration. We caught fish. We learned. We heard some great stories. We had fun. Andrew checked all the boxes, meaning that I very much look forward to our next red-fishing experience together.” Rob McEwen.

Andy is a lot of fun to fish with and has a big bag of tricks to draw from. He works hard to find fish and put the boat where you can get them. He is an excellent teacher and helped me get another 10 to 15 feet on my casting with a few easy to understand corrections. As a former trout fishing guide in Wyoming and the western fisheries, I appreciated his people skills as well as his fishing expertise. I’d definitely go fishing with him again.
